Starlight Children’s Foundation

Living with illness or injury can cause enormous strain in the lives of children and their families. The pain, loneliness and isolation that sick children feel dominates their lives, and they often miss out on normal experiences that healthy children take for granted.

Starlight provides programs integral to the total care of seriously ill children – while health professionals focus on treating the illness, Starlight is there to lift the spirits of the child, giving them the opportunity to laugh, play and be a child again.

Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation

The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation runs a critical service across Victoria called Paediatric Infant Perinatal Emergency Retrieval (PIPER) service.  Formerly known as NETS Victoria, the PIPER service is an emergency transport system for babies and children that responds to emergencies all over Victoria. The children receive intensive care while being transported to the most appropriate specialist hospital, with the life-saving health service being provided to children across both metropolitan and rural areas.

Newborn Emergency Transport Service (VIC)

(NETS) provides emergency medical retrieval of critically-ill newborn or premature babies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  NETS also provide expert clinical advice, clinical co-ordination, emergency treatment and stabilisation & hospital transport for very sick babies & children up to the age of 16 years.

As Victoria has only four hospitals that possess their own neo-natal intensive care units, NETS Ambulances provide the necessary transport to ensure critically ill babies are transported safely.  NETS transports over 1,000 critically-ill newborns in Victoria each year.

In 2013, Chain Reaction will provide funding to purchase and fit-out a brand new NETS Ambulance.
